Trevoh Chalobah made his first senior appearance for England in a match which saw Nicolas Jackson help Senegal to an historic victory, while Moises Caicedo and Ecuador booked their place at next year's FIFA World Cup.

World Cup qualification is approaching it's closing stages over in South America, as Ecuador and Brazil joined Argentina in securing an automatic qualification spot.

Caicedo featured throughout the full 90 minutes of Ecuador's trip to Peru, with Kendry Paez - who will join Chelsea after his 18th birthday - being introduced as a substitute in the second half.

Despite being reduced to 10 men for the final quarter of an hour, the away side held on for a 0-0 draw and the point they needed to secure a World Cup place.

It was Ecuador's third 0-0 draw in a row in qualifying, signalling the defensive resilience which has been at the core of an impressive run. They are now unbeaten in their last nine qualifying games, their best run for 20 years, while their 11 clean sheets in 16 matches during the current campaign is the best of any South American side.

Argentina's World Cup qualification was already comfortably secured going into their match against Colombia in Buenos Aires, as Enzo Fernandez was named in their starting line-up once again.

Things didn't go to plan, though, as a Luis Diaz solo effort gave the visitors the lead before Fernandez was sent off for a high foot. However, Argentina were still able to find a late equaliser to secure a point with a 1-1 draw.

Andrey Santos, who spent last season on loan at Strasbourg, was an unused substitute as Brazil booked their place at the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Paraguay.

England hosted Senegal in a friendly match on Wednesday evening at the City Ground, scene of Chelsea's final Premier League fixture of the season, which sealed our qualification for the UEFA Champions League with a win over Nottingham Forest.

Now in the colours of their countries, four Blues were in action during this game, with debutant Chalobah and Levi Colwill giving England an all-Chelsea centre-back pairing, Noni Madueke coming off the bench and Jackson starting for Senegal.

The Three Lions got off to a good start when captain Harry Kane opened the scoring, but Senegal fought back as Jackson set up Ismaila Sarr for an equaliser shortly before half-time.

It was the first goal England had conceded under former Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel, but two more came in the second half as Senegal triumphed 3-1, becoming the first African team ever to beat the Three Lions.

It was still a special night for the Chalobah family though as he joined brother and fellow Blues academy graduate Nathaniel in making his Three Lions debut, with the pair becoming the first brothers to have played for Chelsea and the senior England men's team, after the older sibling came on as a late substitute against Spain in October 2018 while a Watford player.

Elsewhere, Filip Jorgensen was an unused substitute during Denmark's 5-0 win over Lithuania, having played the full 90 minutes during Saturday's 2-1 win over Northern Ireland, and Djordje Petrovic kept a clean sheet in Serbia's 3-0 win over Andorra.
