Your international Blues competed in the last of their fixtures during this window with both Brazil and Ecuador in World Cup qualifying action in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Andrey Santos made his second start for the Selecao at the base of midfield, alongside Premier League counterparts Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta, as they went up against Bolivia.

There was plenty of action, with the duo of Joao Pedro and Estevao Willian coming off the bench with half an hour left to play in the contest.

Despite scoring his first goal for Brazil in his previous match against Chile – a stunning overhead kick in a 3-0 win – Estevao was unable to inspire his side to victory as Brazil fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bolivia.

The result means Brazil finish in fifth place in qualification for the 2026 World Cup, one point off second spot, which was occupied by Ecuador.

Our midfielder Moises Caicedo was sent off after receiving a second yellow card during their 1-0 win over Argentina, who finished top.

Both sides finished with ten men as former Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi also received his marching orders, while Enner Valencia’s first-half penalty – in the 13th minute of added time – gave Caicedo’s side a memorable win.

Ecuador took second place in the South American group following the victory, with both them and Brazil now turning their attention to next summer's World Cup.
