Jess Carter was on the scoresheet for England against Austria this evening and several other members of the Chelsea squad enjoyed a positive night on the international stage.
With England not involved in the Nations League finals, two friendly matches were organised as part of a warm-weather training camp in Spain.
Hannah Hampton started in goal for England and Niamh Charles was at left-back. They helped Sarina Wiegman's side open up a 3-1 lead by the interval, with Alessia Russo, debutant Grace Clinton, and Beth Mead on target.
Lauren James was introduced for Lauren Hemp at the interval while Carter replaced Charles shortly after the hour mark. The defender needed little time to make an impact as she flicked the ball home from close range following an England corner.
Neither Fran Kirby nor Aggie Beever-Jones were afforded runouts, not that it impacted England who added further goals late on through Mead and Rachel Daly. Virginia Kirchberger scored Austria's consolations.
It was also a good night for Maren Mjelde and Guro Reiten as they ensured Norway recorded a 3-0 in Croatia in the first leg of their Nations League promotion-relegation play-offs.
Ada Hegerberg put Norway ahead after 16 minutes and the lead was doubled soon after the half-time interval by Caroline Graham Hansen. Reiten then grabbed an assist as she teed up Celin Bizet Ildhusøy to complete the scoring.
Sweden also claimed a dominant win in their Nations League promotion-relegation play-off first leg, with Nathalie Bjorn and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd starting in a 5-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the sixth minute, Rytting Kaneryd fashioned the opening goal for Madelen Janogy, who then completed her brace before the break.
Sweden eased to a comfortable victory in the second period with Filippa Angeldahl, Pauline Hammarlund, and an own goal from Jelena Gvozderac extending the margin of victory.
There is all to play for in the second leg for Jelena Cankovic's Serbia, who played out a 1-1 draw with Iceland. Cankovic completed 90 minutes for her country.
Elsewhere, Sjoeke Nusken started for Germany in their Nations League semi-final clash against France but couldn't help her country secure victory. Ann-Katrin Berger and Eve Perisset were unused substitutes for their respective sides.
Meanwhile, Kadeisha Buchanan helped her national side begin the Gold Cup with a 6-0 victory over El Salvador - the centre-half converted Canada’s fifth with just under half an hour left on the clock.
Fellow club teammate Ashley Lawrence was an unused substitute with Canada set to face off against Paraguay and Costa Rica in the remaining group matches.
There was a good result for Scotland and Erin Cuthbert in the Pinatar Cup semi-final as two goals from Martha Thomas secured a 2-0 victory over the Philippines.
