Mykhailo Mudryk's hopes of competing at this summer's European Championships remain intact after the winger helped Ukraine claim a place in Tuesday's playoff final.

Attempting to build on his goal against Newcastle United and a threatening display against Leicester City, Mudryk was named in the Ukraine starting XI as his country faced Bosnia and Herzegovina in the playoff semi-finals.

Only a victory for Ukraine would send them through to next week's playoff final to earn a place in Germany this summer. Yet for much of the contest, it appeared as though Bosnia would advance.

The deadlock was broken early into the second half when Ukraine defender Mykola Matviyenko turned the ball into his own net.

It appeared for much of the second half that own goal would prove enough for Bosnia, but Ukraine rallied and equalised with five minutes to play. A wonderful pass from Mudryk started an attack that Roman Yaremchuk finished.

Momentum firmly swung Ukraine's way and they grabbed what proved to be the winner just two minutes later. Artem Dovbyk struck to seal victory and set up a playoff final against Iceland that takes place next Tuesday.

Also in action this evening was Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, who earned his third cap for Serbia as they took on Russia in a friendly.

It didn't prove a night to remember for the 24-year-old, however. Serbia were reduced to ten men in the 21st minute when Milan Gajic was dismissed and Petrovic couldn't keep out the penalty that followed from Anton Miranchuk.

Russia would score three more in the second period as the Serbian side tired, but Petrovic did complete the 90 minutes. Petrovic will be hoping to keep his place on Monday night when Serbia travel to Cyprus for another friendly.

Elsewhere, a quartet of our youth players were involved as England Under-19s drew 1-1 with Morocco in Rabat.

The hosts were headed for victory until Blues defender Billy Gee guided Josh Duffus’ cross home 10 minutes from time to equalise.

Gee had lined up alongside clubmate Leo Castledine from the off while fellow Blue Ronnie Stutter was later introduced from the bench in the second half to replace Castledine.

Goalkeeper Max Merrick remained on the bench. All four will aim to be involved on Sunday when the England Under-19s face the USA.
