Norway turned around a one-goal deficit to beat hosts Switzerland 2-1 in an eventful Group A encounter in Basel on Wednesday night.
This match presented the chance for Blues fans to see new goalkeeper Livia Peng in action, and she was selected to start by Switzerland boss Pia Sundhage. Guro Reiten was also in the starting lineup for Norway as the future club team-mates faced each other in this Women's Euro 2025 opener.
Peng was called into action after 13 minutes, when she made a comfortable claim from a Caroline Graham Hansen cross and commanded her area well for the entire first half.
Norway offered little else in the opening period, and the host nation poured forward with confidence. Geraldine Reuteler rattled the bar midway after 25 minutes, and the breakthrough came just three minutes later when Nadine Riesen's shot hit the near post and trickled over the line.
The second half saw a resurgent Norway hit back through a bullet header from Ada Hegerberg on 54 minutes. Blues star Reiten was involved in their second goal, sending a long ball forward for Graham Hansen, who put a dangerous low cross into the box, unfortunately turned in by Switzerland's Julia Stierl.
In a frenetic second half, Norway were then awarded a penalty after Reuteler handled the ball inside the box. Hegerberg went up against Peng with the spot-kick, but the goalkeeper didn't have to make a save as the experienced Norwegian put her penalty well wide of the post.
Buoyed by that decision, Switzerland went up the other end and were then given a penalty themselves, but the decision was overturned when the Video Assistant Referee confirmed that there had been an offside in the build-up.
The hosts battled to find an equaliser, but Norway held on to take the win.
