Chelsea forward Marc Guiu netted for Spain’s Under-19s against Germany this afternoon, but his side fell to a 2-1 defeat in their opening game of a friendly tournament in Romania.
The Blues forward, who arrived this summer from Barcelona, broke the deadlock after three minutes with a smart header following Atletico Madrid’s Daniel Munoz near-post cross.
Club Brugge’s Paris Brunner equalised for Germany before Dortmund’s Kjell Watjen scored the winner with a quarter of an hour remaining. Guiu was substituted in the 79th minute for Alejandro Granados.
The Chelsea youngster, who has made first first-team appearances this season, will look to help his country bounce back against Norway on Sunday (October 12). Spain then face Romania on Wednesday (October 15).
Elsewhere, Genesis Antwi featured for Sweden Under-18s in their 1-0 victory over Japan. Real Sociedad’s Santino Samuyiwa scored the match-winning goal.
Antwi started the match and will now be in line to face the USA on Friday (October 11) and then Japan once again on Sunday.
Also on Wednesday, England Under-19s went down 2-1 to Portugual with six young Blues featuring.
Ted Curd, on loan at Hampton & Richmond, was in goal, and he was joined in the starting XI by Kiano Dyer, Harrison Murray-Campbell and Reiss Denny.
Shumaira Mheuka and Tyrique George came off the bench during the second half, in which Denny won a penalty converted by Ethan Nwaneri to halve Portugal's lead. There was to be no equaliser. England next play on Saturday against the Netherlands.
