Chelsea’s Mayra Ramirez has a chance to play in Saturday’s Women’s Copa America final, after Colombia beat Argentina in a penalty shoot-out.

Ramirez was named in the starting line-up, and the teams battled to a 0-0 draw in normal time, with Colombia goalkeeper Katherine Tapia having pulled off some excellent saves to keep her side in the tie by the time the 90 minutes were up.

There is no extra time in this competition, and so the semi-final went straight to penalties.

Catalina Usme and Jorelyn Carabali both converted for Colombia, but Argentina also scored their first two spot-kicks.

Manuela Pavi then put Las Cafeteras 3-2 in front, before the impressive Tapia pulled off a big save from Argentina’s Paulina Gramaglia.

It was then the turn of Ramirez to take her penalty. The Blues striker went for power and was extremely unlucky that her well-struck attempt smashed onto the crossbar.

Ultimately, her miss mattered little, as team-mates Linda Caicedo and Wendy Bonilla converted their spot-kicks. With the shoot-out now into sudden death, Eliana Stabile missed for Argentina, and with a 5-4 scoreline, Colombia had reached the final.

They now have a chance to win the Women's Copa America trophy for the first time, and will face either Brazil or Uruguay in Saturday's final at the Estadio de Liga Deportiva Universitaria in Quito at 10pm UK time.
