Mayra Ramirez led the line for Colombia as they earned a point in their opening Copa America Femenina match against Venezuela.

The Chelsea forward went close with a chance after just seven minutes on Thursday night, but neither side could breach the other’s defence in the goalless draw at the Estadio Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda in Quito.

There was a scare for the Colombians when Daniuska Rodriguez fired off a dangerous dipping shot from outside the box, which smashed against the crossbar.

Ramirez played 76 minutes before being substituted and will be in contention for a starting place once more when Colombia face Paraguay on Saturday.

Brazil currently top Group B, having taken the maximum six points from their first two matches in the competition.

Only the winner and runner-up from each of the two groups will advance to the semi-final of the competition, with those fixtures scheduled for 28 and 29 July, ahead of the final on 2 August.

The teams that finish third in each group will play off against each other in the fifth-place playoff on 28 July.

Bolivia complete Colombia's five-team pool alongside Brazil, Paraguay and Venezuela.
