Neto played 87 minutes in Oslo and set up the opener after dribbling down the left wing and intelligently laying the ball into the path of Joao Felix, located on the edge of the box. He took a touch and finished with aplomb.

That 16th-minute goal was cancelled out by Erling Haaland early in the second half, but Goncalo Ramos restored Portugal’s lead soon after following an error by Orjan Nyland. Ramos then thought he had scored a second, but a lengthy VAR checked showed there had been an offside in the build-up.

Norway pressed for a second equaliser late on during an entertaining encounter, but the Portuguese stood firm to make it two wins from two as they seek to defend the Nations League crown they won last summer. Neto was replaced by Bernardo Silva three minutes from time.

Earlier on Sunday, four Chelsea players featured for England Under-18s as they qualified for the semi-finals of the UEFA Friendship Cup with a 2-1 win over Egypt in Nyon.

Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, who is spending the season on loan at Portsmouth, opened the scoring on the quarter-hour with a superb strike from 20 yards out.

The winger carried a threat throughout the first half, forcing a good save from the opposition goalkeeper following another mazy run and flashing an angled drive inches wide of the far post.

Gabriel Sambou and Jashayde Greenwood were introduced midway through the second half, while Calvin Diakite also entered the fray, with Kavuma-McQueen one of those to make way.

Egypt levelled with 11 minutes left but the Young Lions were soon back in front and it was Greenwood who supplied the precise pass that set up Michael Mills of Newcastle to score the winning goal.
