It was a successful night for Blues midfielder Sjoeke Nusken as she helped Germany establish a first-leg lead over France in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals, while Erin Cuthbert was on target for Scotland against Morocco.
Nusken was named in the German starting XI for the last-four encounter, which was played in front of 37,191 fans in Dusseldorf. Chelsea team-mates Sandy Balitmore and Oriane Jean-Francois were included in the France side.
The hosts carried the greater threat throughout the contest and Nusken came close to breaking the deadlock several times in the second period. She was left frustrated by two near misses and a nice reaction save from Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.
Baltimore was replaced in the 71st minute and it was shortly after her departure that Germany opened the scoring – and Nuksen was involved.
With 11 minutes remaining, she played a pass out wide to Klara Buhl, who was allowed to move inside off the left flank and then fire a shot from 20 yards beyond Peyraud-Magnin. It ensures Germany travel to Caen for next Tuesday's second leg with a slender advantage.
In the other semi-final tie, Chelsea duo Nathalie Bjorn and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd both started but were unable to help Sweden avoid a 4-0 first-leg defeat to Spain.
Barcelona stars Claudia Pina and Alexia Putellas did the damage, as both scored braces to put Spain in a commanding position heading into the second leg next Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Scotland claimed a 2-1 friendly victory over Morocco in Casablanca thanks in part to a goal from Cuthbert. The Blues midfielder opened the scoring directly from a corner shortly before half time, only for the hosts to hit back in the 80th minute through Elodie Nakkach.
Yet as the contest appeared set to end as a draw and stoppage time had begun, Caroline Weir found the net to secure a win for the visitors.
Victory was also celebrated by Chelsea goalkeeper Livia Peng, who played the full 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet as Switzerland claimed a 1-0 win over Canada, for whom former Blues Ashley Lawrence and Jessie Fleming were in action.
Veerle Buurman, meanwhile, played 45 minutes of the Netherlands' 0-0 draw with Poland, while Maika Hamano featured for the final half-hour as Japan came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with Italy.
