A vital but hard-fought draw with Brazil booked Mayra Ramirez and Colombia's spot in the knockout stages of this summer's Copa America Femenina.

Ramirez started up front for Colombia as they took on holders Brazil in their third fixture of this tournament in Ecuador, and went into it full of confidence after the Blues striker netted in an 8-0 win over Bolivia last time out.

With this being both teams' last game of Group B, Brazil were already qualified for the next round and Colombia knew a point would be enough to guarantee they join the 2022 champions.

Following an even opening to the match, Colombia's chances were given a boost on 24 minutes. Brazil goalkeeper Lorena used her hand to save a shot outside the box and was promptly shown a straight red card, meaning Brazil would play the rest of the game with 10 players.

Colombia were unable to convert their numerical advantage into clear chances though, before or after Ramirez was replaced just after the hour mark, and in fact it was Brazil who came closest to snatching victory, hitting the post with a late free-kick.

However, it finished in a stalemate, which continues both sides' chances of lifting the trophy. Colombia will now take on Argentina in the semi-finals in Quito on Monday 28 July, with kick-off at 7pm local time (12am Tuesday 29 July in the UK).
