Host nation Switzerland scored a dramatic late equaliser to secure their passage to the quarter-finals of Women's Euro 2025, while Guro Reiten was given a night off for Norway with her side already through.

Group A reached its conclusion on Thursday evening, as Livia Peng's Switzerland faced Finland, while Norway – already into the quarter-finals – took on Iceland.

Over in Geneva, the Swiss knew that avoiding defeat to Finland would see them through to the knockout stages, and new Chelsea goalkeeper was called into action just before half time.

There was chaos in the penalty area following a Finland corner, and Peng got down quickly to deny an almost certain goal, leaving the opposition players in disbelief that they hadn't taken the lead.

A Finland win would see the host nation eliminated, making the final stages a nervy affair where one goal could, and briefly did, change it all.

That moment came when Switzerland's Viola Calligaris inexplicably dived into a challenge inside the area and conceded a penalty. Natalia Kuikka stepped up against Peng and found the back of the net with eight minutes plus stoppages still to go.

When all hope looked lost, Riola Xhemaili popped up at the death and scored a stoppage-time equaliser. Switzerland were through, just, and will now face the winner of Group B in the quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Norway took on Iceland knowing that they had already qualified for the knockout stages as group winners.

With that in mind, Guro Reiten, who had started the previous two matches, was given a rest and named on the bench.

In the end, Norway took a 4-3 win and headed into the knockout stages with a 100 per cent record. They will now face the runner-up of Group B next Wednesday.
