Nicolas Jackson’s fast start to his first Chelsea pre-season continued in Philadelphia when he added a goal and two assists to the assist he made for Ian Maatsen to score three days earlier against Wrexham.
In the second game of our USA tour, when the Blues took on Brighton in the Premier League Summer Series, the 22-year-old summer signing raced on to a Marc Cucurella through ball and found the net in style to complete the Chelsea scoring in a 4-3 win. He also played his part in goals for Mykhailo Mudryk and Conor Gallagher but it was scoring himself that was understandably the significant step forward.
‘I am very happy, I was telling it to my guys last week that I wanted to score so quick so I can get that rhythm, and today it happened so I am very glad,’ smiled Jackson after the final whistle.
‘We won and that is the most important thing. I feel very happy with the team-mates and everybody so I am very glad.
‘I don’t want to stop. We want to do amazing things in this club and it is just the beginning and we will see what happens.’
Jackson has shown signs in the short amount of time he has been on the pitch as a Chelsea player that he is a striker with all-round abilities, and he confirmed he views himself similarly.
‘I like to link up and I have been learning to run the space so now I am very good at it. I am not perfect in everything but I can do it all,’ he said before sharing his initial thoughts on working under Mauricio Pochettino.
‘He is a fantastic coach, I watched him for many years now and I know he is a massive coach. He is one of the best in the world so I am very happy to work with him, and I hope we do amazing things together.’
Chelsea's third pre-season game vs Newcastle takes place at 8.15pm (local time) on Wednesday 26 July and will be streamed live on the official Chelsea website and official Chelsea app (excluding in the USA and UK)
