Jamie Gittens is feeling good. After an injury-hampered first campaign at Chelsea, the winger has looked sharp throughout pre-season and is enjoying working under Xabi Alonso.
The 21-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer from Borussia Dortmund and made 27 appearances. Yet none of those came after 1 February due to a hamstring injury sustained in a come-from-behind win over West Ham United.
It’s why the summer was something of a rest for Gittens. He was able to enjoy some time off, fully recover, and return for pre-season ready to make an impression. A goal in our victory over Western Sydney Wanderers and an assist against Tottenham Hotspur are certainly that.
'I’m feeling, I would say, more confident now – in my body as well,' Gittens explained in an exclusive interview with CFC+, which you can watch below.
'The injury that happened [impacted my first season], but I’m feeling better every day. I’m trying to improve every day to be the best version of myself. '
Gittens has enjoyed working under Alonso thus far: 'He's been really positive towards us,' the winger says. And he is happy to be back with his team-mates after the summer break.
'It’s been good to be back with the boys,' Gittens explains. 'I’m really enjoying it right now and it’s been really good to be part of this team.'
