Joao Pedro discusses the intricacies of forward play in an in-depth exclusive interview for tonight’s matchday programme.
The in-form Brazilian has enjoyed a fruitful spell in front of goal lately and much of his effectiveness has been down to his ability to adapt to the situation in front of him.
'I think in my position, as a striker, you never know where you’re going to receive the ball, or if it’s going to arrive on your left or right foot,' he explains. 'So you have to be ready to react, and what I always try to do is work on that, to be really ready for the moment.
'Like against Napoli, I had more space to hit it with my weaker foot, and then against West Ham my goal was a header. So I try to be complete. I know it’s difficult but if I keep working, I think I can achieve a high level.'
The 24-year-old is not getting carried away despite his recent run of goal involvements, and admits he always demands more from himself.
'I’m happy but I know I can achieve more,' he says. 'It’s been good, I’m in form, scoring goals and getting assists, and that’s why I want more.'
Speaking of goalscoring runs, there’s also a long read on Mark Stein, the first man to bag in seven consecutive Premier League games, as programme editor Richard Godden looks back on his remarkable run in the 1993/94 campaign.
We’re also getting nostalgic in our regular Over Land & Sea feature, as we take a look at the impact made by Nigerian players at Chelsea, hovering the microscope over the likes of Celestine Babayaro, John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses.
There’s also a look at the milestones set by Cole Palmer with his hat-trick at the weekend in our In Focus series, not to mention all the stats and facts you’ll need ahead of tonight’s big game against Leeds United.
