They have scored ten goals and provided ten assists between them, regularly combining to devastating effect. Joao Pedro leads the attack with Rogers to his left and Palmer his right, but the trio’s fluidity and flexibility allow them to interchange, dragging defenders out of position and creating space for others.

With a goal and an assist apiece in our games against Fulham, Brighton and Hull, Joao Pedro has picked up where he left off last term. And the Brazilian appreciates that one of the reasons for his own good form is having Palmer and Rogers beside him. He has explained how the trio combines.

‘Cole can score, he can pass, he can score from free-kicks, he can do everything,’ said Joao Pedro.

‘He's a different player. That's what makes him special. I just have to be ready when he gets the ball. I need to be in the right position to make the run, because he's going to make a brilliant pass, so I have to be ready to score. Because if not, later he's going to say, "Hey, Joao, you need to give me an assist!”

‘Morgan is a very skilful player,’ added our No.9. ‘We can see he can dribble past two, three guys, and carry the ball. That's what we expect from him, and I think he has started very well.

‘With Cole, I try to always give the ball to his feet. With Morgan it’s more to the space, or to let him in a one-v-one situation. And my job is just to run, and then they’re going to find me!’

Joao Pedro says the three have built a great connection off the pitch, too, which is helping their understanding when they take to the grass. He feels the central striker position enables him to showcase his myriad of skills and ‘be more dangerous’ by spending time in the opposition box.

‘Also,’ Joao jokes, ‘imagine if I try to play as a number ten, I need to fight positions with Cole Palmer! So it’s better if I stay as a nine’

The Blues’ final assignment before the upcoming, prolonged international break – when Joao Pedro will feature for Brazil once more – takes us a short way west, to Brentford.

Joao Pedro clearly has plenty of confidence in the team’s ability to find the net, so if we can improve defensively then our hopes of returning home with three points increases.

‘Everyone wants to score, and Xabi (Alonso) tells us always, it doesn't matter what happens, you just need to be focused and be connected to the game and you're going to score.

‘That's why we score many goals this season from the beginning, because I think in the front three you can create a lot. And if you create a lot, you’re going to score a lot of goals as well.’
