Joao Pedro’s first Chelsea goal since August was a priceless one as it secured three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. His contribution to a collective success made the Brazilian a very happy man indeed afterwards.

Joao Pedro had already forced Vicario into a good save when he benefitted from the tenacious work of Moises Caicedo to sweep us into a deserved first-half lead in north London.

Further chances came the attacker’s way, with Vicario making two superb stops to deny him adding to his tally on the night. In the end, his third league goal of the campaign proved enough.

‘I needed this goal because it had been a long time I didn’t score, and the team expect that from me,’ said Joao Pedro.

‘Today I could score and I am very happy. I always want to help the team, of course with goals and assists, but first I need to play well. If I play well, the goals are going to come. The important thing is just to win games, and I am very chilled about the goals.’

It has been noted Joao Pedro had not been having many efforts on target in recent fixtures, but he explained his desire to help his team-mates overrides any personal ambition. The collective always comes first.

‘In my position if you don’t shoot you get frustrated, but you need to not look just at yourself. You need to see if the others can get a chance. If I don’t shoot, I am going to create space for the others.

‘I had a lot of opportunities, but if you see the other time I had the chance to shoot, I passed to Jamie [Gittens], so I play for the team.

‘If we just win, I am happy. Of course I want to score, but sometimes it’s not going to happen. We won, I scored so I’m happy.’

Aren't we all, Joao!
