Joao Pedro was left feeling like it wasn’t our day after we narrowly missed out on the chance to make it five Premier League wins in a row after our 2-2 draw with Leeds United.
It was a frustrating night at the Bridge after such a bright opening period that saw the Blues take full control of the contest as the Brazilian fired us into the lead with a dinked finish over the onrushing Leeds goalkeeper.
Joao Pedro then turned provider after winning a second-half spot-kick, which Cole Palmer converted to make it four goals in two games for our No. 10, but, after doubling our advantage on the night, the visitors fought back to draw level and, despite our chances to secure all three points right at the end, the contest concluded 2-2.
The 24-year-old believes the Blues were full value for the win after a positive opening period. Still, he acknowledges we lacked that final push to see the result over the line, urging more consistency heading into the rest of the campaign.
‘We are very frustrated because I think we started the game very well,’ he began. ‘We controlled the game at 1-0 and 2-0, but in the end, we conceded. This season has been like this.
‘I think we have to be more consistent and more focused, and kill the game, but today it happened again. We need to look at ourselves to see where we can improve.
‘When things like this happen, where we could win the game – I had a chance, Cole had a chance – I think it’s just not our day. We need to be focused to try to win the game.
‘I think we need to be more consistent. If you want to achieve the Champions League and top four, you cannot drop points like this.’
Joao Pedro felt that, particularly with Leeds’ equaliser, we could’ve done more to avoid the situation.
He continued: ‘We need to clear the ball. If you wait and get too many people around the ball, that can happen. It’s difficult. Today we played a great game, but we need to be more focused. We can’t concede like this.’
In terms of personal success, Joao Pedro has now converted his sixth goal in eight games, and won his third penalty in two matches – a feat the forward is proud of, but he believes he’s capable of even more.
He added: ‘I just try to improve every day in the training sessions, and I think now I have shown on the pitch what I‘m capable of doing, but I think I still have a lot to improve.’
