Former Blues winger Joe Cole hopes the supporters had as much fun as he did reliving old times at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea Legends’ latest match.
Cole was part of the Legends side which took on Liverpool at the Bridge on Saturday to raise funds for the good work done by the Chelsea Foundation, all while bringing back fantastic memories.
The game may have ended in a loss for the Blues, but that couldn’t put a dampener on the atmosphere inside our stadium.
Supporters were reunited with their heroes from across the generations, with players spanning 23 years of Chelsea history representing the Blues once again on the pitch.
That includes Cole’s seven years here, during which he was crowned a Premier League champion three times, as well as winning the FA Cup twice and one League Cup, becoming part of our first-ever Double-winning side in 2009/10, his final season at Chelsea.
‘It was great to be back,’ he said, after playing his first game for Chelsea Legends, going up against some of his other former team-mates from his time at Liverpool.
‘I had a great time seeing everyone, catching up, seeing some old faces. The weather was good, people were out having a good time.
‘It was just great to see everyone. Some of those fans have probably seen all these generations of players, from Marcel [Desailly] right the way through to Eden [Hazard].
‘So it was nice. It was nostalgic for people and it was great for us to come and see everyone.’
It was good to see you too, Joe. Once a Blue, always a Blue!
