Johanna Rytting Kaneryd has left Chelsea to join French side Lyon on a permanent deal.

Rytting Kaneryd spent four successful seasons with the Blues after arriving from BK Hacken in her native Sweden in 2022.

A skilful and direct winger who predominantly operated on the right flank, Rytting Kaneryd contributed to a league and cup double in her first season at Chelsea, having opened her account for the club with a goal against Brighton in a WSL win at Kingsmeadow in March 2023.

She provided ten assists in her second campaign, including one on her 50th appearance in a victory against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. She then netted our second goal in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford as we retained our WSL title on the final day.

Rytting Kaneryd started 2024/25 in top form and the highlight of a productive period, in which she registered the most goal involvements in the WSL, was a stunning volley against Tottenham at Kingsmeadow.

Using her instep, she steered the ball back across goal into the top corner, with the strike a deserving winner of the Chelsea Women Goal of the Season award. It epitomised her talent and eye for the spectacular.

Only two players made more than her 36 appearances for us that campaign as we swept the board domestically, with the Swedish international featuring in both the League and FA Cup finals.

Her final season in blue included a perfect hat-trick scored away to Liverpool shortly before Christmas and yet another winners’ medal. She started and assisted Aggie Beever-Jones’ goal that made sure the League Cup was ours for the second consecutive season with a victory over Manchester United.

In total, Rytting Kaneryd played 139 times for us, scoring 17 goals, registering 26 assists, and lifting seven major trophies. We would like to thank Johanna for her service and wish her all the best in the next chapter of her career.
