Johanna Rytting Kaneryd is hoping to deliver a performance to match the occasion when we host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge this evening.

Manchester City come to SW6 sitting top of the Women's Super League table by only a single point, having played one game more than the Blues, who will go into the match in second position.

With a place at the league's summit at stake, it is sure to be an entertaining encounter and Blues winger Rytting Kaneryd is revelling in the opportunity to claim an important three points on home turf.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form this term, helping the Blues achieve a 100 per cent start to the league campaign with six wins from six thus far. She has started in each of those matches and has scored on three occasions, one of which earned her the WSL Goal of the Month award for October.

Rytting Kaneryd is hoping the Chelsea faithful inside the Bridge bring the atmosphere this evening, while the winger and her team-mates aim to deliver a stellar performance on the pitch to see us to the three points.

'These are the kind of games you want to play in as a footballer,' our Swedish international said ahead of facing Manchester City. 'We have started the season well, so I'm super excited for it.

'It's going to be a special night. Stamford Bridge is always something special. The more games we can play there the better. It's always extra exciting when we get to play there and I'm sure the fans will bring the energy.

'Playing at Stamford Bridge against a top team, there is something in me that wants to go out there, play and do my best. I have a good feeling. I feel like I'm in good shape, I want to perform and help the team to win. Hopefully, I can do that.'

Things could hardly be any closer in the table going into this evening's encounter and that is also something that can be said about the head-to-head record between the two sides.

Chelsea has faced Manchester City 20 times in the WSL thus far, with both sides registering six wins while the other eight matches have ended in draws. The Blues have scored 27 goals, while our opponents have netted 25.

Such fine margins were also apparent last season when we pipped City to the title on goal difference, with both sides finishing level on points. So, Rytting Kaneryd knows how vital this encounter is and that's why she says we must be at our very best.

'We know that City are a good team,' she said. 'They are top just now and have played one game more. It's all in the details in this league. We saw last season how it came down to the last day.

'When we look back at the end of this season, we know this game will have been super important, if not the most important game so far.

'It's going to be very important that we play at our best. We can't afford not to be. We've won all our games and scored a lot of goals, but where does that come from? It's the intensity and in the way we're playing, especially at the start of games.

'We've been scoring early in games and I think that has been the key for us. We will really need to show up and have the intensity in our play. We're going to be playing a really good team, so we can't be naïve. We need to find our rhythm and play smart.'
