Filip Jorgensen labelled winning the UEFA Conference League as ‘one of the best days of his life’. That's quite the statement. But one you can't help but agree with.
The goalkeeper, who joined last season from Spanish club Villarreal, helped us come from behind to defeat fellow La Liga side Real Betis 4-1 in Poland to help us ‘complete the set’ of major European titles.
Jorgensen put in a fine display and hailed the performances of his team-mates at the other end of the pitch, as goals after the break from Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo ensured it was the blue end of the stadium that were celebrating at full-time.
While Jorgensen was with Villarreal during their Europa League triumph of 2021, he didn’t feature for the Spanish side so for the goalkeeper, this victory with Chelsea – where he has been our first-choice between the sticks in the Conference League – means so much to him.
‘Winning this trophy is an unbelievable feeling and I’m really happy,’ said Filip shortly after the full-time whistle in Wroclaw.
‘Quite simply, this is one of the best days of my life. It’s what every player wants to do in the career, to win trophies and I think this is just the start for us.
‘The sky is the limit, because this group is unbelievable. We were very motivated to win this trophy, we really wanted it and that’s what we showed today.
‘It was great to celebrate with the fans and now we’re going to party a lot!’
It caps off a memorable first season at Stamford Bridge for the Danish international, helping the club secure Champions League football through our Premier League finish and adding a European title to his CV.
The goalkeeper has been pleased with his progress and hopes he can continue to grow as we look to build on these successes.
‘I’m really happy with how it’s gone [first season at Chelsea],’ added our No.12. ‘The year has been good.
‘There have been ups and downs for sure, but I have learned a lot, and this year has made me a much better goalkeeper than I was before.’
