Josh Acheampong was left feeling on top of the world after scoring his first goal for his boyhood club and helping the Blues to a memorable 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
It was an accomplished display from the young centre-half who opened the scoring after the break with a bullet header from Pedro Neto’s cross. The Portuguese winger would then double our advantage as he etched his own name onto the scoresheet after a well-worked set-piece allowed him a better angle at goal, which he took advantage of.
The game would be wrapped up when Reece James fired in from close range six minutes from time at the City Ground, wheeling away to celebrate with the travelling supporters, with three points secured.
Josh was quick to praise the skipper – who was making his 200th appearance for the Blues – for his encouragement, while proving to the 19-year-old that his dream to become a Chelsea player was possible.
‘It’s that inspiration to know you can come through the Academy and play for Chelsea first team,’ Josh opened. ‘I’m so grateful to Reece and all the other Academy players because they’ve given me lots of support.
‘It was a really good feeling to score. It’s quite surreal. I don’t remember it too much, but just a really good feeling. I don’t really remember much of the celebrations either, to be honest. I need to watch it back!
‘I don’t score many goals, so to score my first Chelsea goal is really good.’
Speaking about the team’s performance, Acheampong felt that the Blues were full value for the points, and felt we did well to combat Forest’s quality.
‘The first half was quite tough and they created quite a lot of chances, but so did we,’ he continued. ‘I’m happy we managed to get that first goal, and hopefully we can build from there.’
Josh knows that following our dramatic victory over Liverpool before the international break and our win over Forest today, it will be important to maintain our momentum heading into a busy period of games.
He added: ‘Of course, we’re really pleased with the win. We spoke about building on this, and hopefully we can do the same in the games to come.’
