Nicolas Jackson acknowledged the importance of reaching the double-digit mark for the season in the race to secure a spot in the top five, after notching the decisive goal against Everton.
It was a tight and testing match in the early kick-off at the Bridge, with the Blues starting the better of the two sides, and although we were unable to convert in the early stages, we came close through the likes of Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto.
Eventually, Nico would break the deadlock with a powerful finish into the bottom corner in front of the Shed End, wheeling away to celebrate with his teammates as he marked his first goal since returning from injury.
The Blues held onto the slender margin with Robert Sanchez producing some important saves to keep us in the game before the full-time whistle arrived, welcomed with cheers around Stamford Bridge - but Nico knows the job is far from finished.
‘It’s a very important win, especially with us fighting for the top five spots,’ Jackson opened, speaking after the match.
‘Every game counts. Now it’s about forgetting this one and focusing on the next one.
‘I’m very happy that we won and I scored. I think I’ve hit the post [trying the same thing] like three times, so I’m happy I scored and we won.’
Nico is the first Chelsea striker since Didier Drogba to make it back-to-back double-digit returns in the Premier League, a feat he is particularly pleased with.
He continued: ‘It’s a good achievement and I’m very happy, but it’s never enough, we want more. I’ve just come back from injury, and I’m getting back to my level. I was confident when I hit the ball and it went in.’
There is now only one focus for Jackson and his teammates, and that’s securing our place amongst Europe’s elite next season.
‘We are confident we can finish in the Champions League spots,’ he added. ‘As you can see, everyone is fighting for it, it just depends on us and now we just focus on the next one.’
