Winning the Women's Super League title was a motivating factor in Keira Walsh's decision to join Chelsea from Barcelona in January. And this afternoon at Stamford Bridge, the England international got her hands on the WSL trophy for only the second time in her storied career.

Walsh is no stranger to lifting silverware, be that at club level or with the Lionesses. Yet her only previous WSL title triumph was experienced during her formative years in the Manchester City first team.

Almost a decade has passed since, during which Walsh enjoyed huge success in Spain with Barcelona. However, when the England international decided to return to England in January, she did so with the desire to lift the Women's Super League trophy once more.

Today at Stamford Bridge – after Liverpool were seen off thanks to a late strike from Aggie Beever-Jones – Walsh's ambition was achieved.

'Winning the WSL again is one of the reasons why I joined Chelsea,' the midfielder said on the Stamford Bridge pitch. ' It's only the second time I've won it, I'm just really, really happy.

'It was very important to finish the season on a win to round it off – and I think all the girls are having an incredible year.

'There have been a lot of games and it's been a tough season, so it's important to finish the league off with three more points.'

The title was sealed with two games to spare, but Sonia Bompastor tasked her players with seeing out the campaign unbeaten. No club in the 22-game WSL era had previously managed to achieve that feat.

Beever-Jones' late goal against the Reds guaranteed an invincible campaign for the Blues, and Walsh was delighted with the efforts of her team-mates.

'It feels really good,' smiled the midfielder. 'I think the way we played today was really important as well, we played some good football. Breaking records is really nice, and it's a good day to celebrate.'

'Aggie was showing off about the fact she got the 100th goal in all competitions, so she's letting everybody know that!'
