Keira Walsh believes all the pressure in the Women’s Super League title race now rests on Manchester City as we travel to Etihad Stadium this weekend.

Defeat to Arsenal last time out means we now sit nine points behind our rivals but could cut that gap to six with a win against City on Sunday.

Chelsea have won six of our last seven against Man City since the start of last season, and experienced midfielder Walsh explained that it’s up to the Blues to swing the momentum in our favour.

‘From our perspective, the pressure is on them,’ she said. ‘Everyone's talking about them being the league leaders and it's a different position when you’re being chased as opposed to chasing.

‘We've got that mentality now where we've got nothing to lose. People are saying the league is over already, so we really have to put the pressure on and see how they cope with being the ones who are out in front.’

Winning 1-0 in Manchester in the Women’s League Cup semi-final meant defending hard against a number of City's chances in the second half.

Walsh explained how that display has only served to give us confidence ahead of another tough test, this time in the Women’s Super League.

‘They're a great team,’ she continued. ‘They have some incredible players and they play really good football out from the back. They are patient in how they play, they don't try to score every time they go forward, so I think we also need to be patient when we're defending against them.

‘It’s knowing they might have the ball sometimes for long spells in possession because that's how they play and then waiting for opportunities and just being confident with the things we can do with the ball as well.

‘We can take pride in the way our defenders played against them in the semi-final. We were really robust and resilient and shut down a lot of opportunities. Hannah made some crucial saves in that game as well. It’s about having belief that when we are on the back foot that we can cope with that and we can come up under pressure.’

While fans will have been disappointed to have come away with a defeat against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge last weekend, Walsh urged the Chelsea faithful to stick with the side ahead of another important clash.

‘I’d ask the fans to keep supporting the team, keep getting behind us,’ she said. ‘The positive support doesn't go unnoticed. We want you to know we're doing absolutely everything for Chelsea and we'll always work hard and play for the shirt. We're working to bring more success to this club.’
