Paez spent the first half of the current season in France with Strasbourg, making 21 appearances for the Ligue 1 side across all competitions, but has now moved to River Plate for the remainder of 2026.

The Argentine side finished fourth in the 2025 Primera Division and recently opened their new campaign with back-to-back wins.

Paez officially joined Chelsea after his 18th birthday in May 2025. He already had considerable experience from his 70 senior appearances for Independiente del Valle in his homeland Ecuador, and has also earned 23 international caps for his country.

The attacking-midfielder now returns to South America to continue his development with River Plate.
