Chelsea FC Women host Arsenal this evening and Sam Kerr is eyeing up all three points against the league leaders.

It’s a top-of-the-table clash at Kingsmeadow today with the Blues facing an impressive Arsenal side who have been top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League for the majority of the season. A win for the Blues would see us leapfrog Arsenal in the table and into first position.

The Gunners came out on top on the opening day of the season, beating the Blues 3-2 in an eventful game at the Emirates back in September and Kerr is expecting another exciting encounter at a sold-out Kingsmeadow.

She said: ‘We’re excited! Coming off the back of a good result against City, I think everyone’s buzzing and this is why we play football - for the big games, so we’re all really excited.

‘They’re a good side with quality players. These are players that can win them games, so we’re not taking them lightly. We saw that in the first game of the season, they’ve got players that can hurt you all over the park.

‘At the end of the day, it just is another league game. Obviously there is a lot more on the line, there’s no denying that, but at the end of the day we’re at home. They’ve got to come to our house and beat us so we’re excited and although it’s another game, there’s always a little bit more on the line when it’s Chelsea v Arsenal.

‘Whenever it’s a derby of course you want to play well and have a good game but I just try and focus on playing the best version of myself every game and it’s no different when we play Arsenal, so I just want to do my job and do what I can to help the team win.’

Emma Hayes’s side come into this evening’s fixture having won our previous four competitive outings, most recently beating Manchester City 1-0 at home in another sell-out game on home turf.

‘The fans were amazing on Sunday, they got us over the line at the very end there when our backs were against the wall. We definitely need them, we felt them and I’m sure they’ll be even louder against Arsenal.’

Kerr added: ‘We always want to win but it is nice to send us away on a break with a win but whenever we step on the field we want to win when we’re playing for this club and there is no exception, especially when we’re playing Arsenal.’
