Sam Kerr wants to see further signs of progress when we play BK Hacken tonight in our final fixture of 2023.
The Australian, who is deputising as skipper in the absence of the injured Millie Bright, reflected on the past 10 days in which the Blues have lost to Arsenal, drawn to tonight’s opponents, and then responded strongly with victory over Bristol City on Sunday.
Another win in Sweden this evening would see Chelsea leapfrog Hacken in Champions League Group D heading in to the final two European fixtures in the new year.
‘We saw over the weekend a week is a long time in football and it ended on a great note with our win against Bristol,’ said Kerr, speaking from Gothenburg.
‘Now we can focus back to the Champions League. It’s nice playing for Chelsea because you play every three days, so whether you play good or bad you don’t have long to sit on it and stir on it or feel good about yourself. You have to move on to the next and keep improving.
‘That’s why we have so many top-class players in our team: you have to keep improving every week, every game, and that’s what we will hopefully do in this last game before the winter break.’
It has been another successful and action-packed year for Kerr. Alongside her exploits in England, which we have had the pleasure of witnessing first hand, the striker also battled back from injury to represent her country at a home World Cup.
She admitted she was excited at the prospect of some time off after tonight’s game.
‘I’m looking forward to the break to be honest! I love the sun so I’ll be going home and getting some sun.
‘I can’t lie, I’m very excited to get out of London and see the sun for a couple of days!’
