Sam Kerr’s sweetly struck volley for Chelsea Women against Liverpool has been chosen by supporters as Chelsea’s Goal of the Month for January. It is the first Women's goal this season to win the monthly award.

It was the first of three goals by Sam Kerr in that match, the club’s last of the month, as her hat-trick fired us past Liverpool in a hugely entertaining 3-2 victory for the Blues in the Women’s FA Cup fourth round.

It was a deserved winner and a fine goal all around, as Lauren James’ perfectly weighted ball over the Reds defence freed Niamh Charles to deliver a cross into the box, where Kerr demonstrated perfect technique to swivel and strike a brilliant volley into the top corner of the net.

Despite strong competition from the six other nominees across our men’s, women’s and Academy teams, the Australian was the clear winner, receiving almost twice as many votes as anyone else.

Kerr also took third spot in the poll, which is decided by votes from Chelsea fans on the club's official website and The 5th Stand app, although she was close to making it a one-two. In the end Kai Havertz took second with his header against Crystal Palace, receiving just three votes more than Kerr's goal at Arsenal.

If you haven’t seen it already, or even if you just want to relive it, Kerr’s Goal of the Month-winning strike is well worth a watch in the video above.

Keep an eye on the official Chelsea website and The 5th Stand app later in February to have your say in the vote to decide the Blues’ next Goal of the Month winner.
