For the third time at this tournament, Chelsea face Brazilian opposition at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, this time it will be Fluminense with a place in the final up for grabs.

Chelsea’s Club World Cup semi-final takes place at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford. Kick-off is 3pm local time on Tuesday, which is 8pm UK time.

The 82,500-capacity stadium currently hosts the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets, and has been chosen to host next year’s FIFA World Cup final.

The winners of this semi between Chelsea and Fluminense will play either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid in the final, also at the MetLife Stadium, next Sunday 13 July at 3pm local time, 8pm UK time.

Head-to-head

Chelsea face Fluminense for the first time in our history. They will be the third Brazilian side the Blues have faced in the United States this summer, after losing 3-1 in the group stage against Flamengo and then defeating Palmeiras 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

The Blues' previous competitive matches against Brazilian sides prior to this summer have both been in the final of the Club World Cup, losing to Corinthians in 2012 and beating Palmeiras in 2022.

Chelsea statistics

Chelsea are returning to the MetLife Stadium for the first time since a pre-season match in August 2013, when we defeated AC Milan 2-0 with goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Andre Schurrle. That fixture was our only previous visit to the stadium.

The Blues have reached our 38th major semi-final since 2000, advancing to the final on 26 occasions out of the previous 37.

Chelsea have won 12 of the past 14 matches in all competitions, losing only at Newcastle United and to Flamengo (both times finishing with 10 players), and have recorded six clean sheets during this period.

Enzo Maresca will be without Liam Delap and Levi Colwill, who are both suspended for the semi-final after receiving their second yellow card of the tournament against Palmeiras, but he can welcome back midfielder Moises Caicedo from his one-match ban. Yellow cards have now been wiped, so only a semi-final red card will cause a player to miss the final.

Chelsea have taken 23 short corners out of 36, more than any other team this tournament. Fluminense are second with eight.

Blues legend and Chelsea’s oldest-ever outfield player Thiago Silva is now Fluminense’s captain. The 40-year-old defender has lost once in six games he has played against the Blues, all while at Paris Saint-German.

New signing Joao Pedro joined Fluminense in 2011 age 11 and stayed until moving to Watford in January 2020.

If the scores in the semi-final are level after 90 minutes, 30 minutes extra time will be played and then penalties if necessary. Chelsea won our last penalty shootout 4-2, against Newcastle in the League Cup quarter-final in December 2023, having lost the previous two in 2022, in the League Cup and FA Cup finals.

A total of 10 English players have scored at this year's Club World Cup, with six of them netting goals for Chelsea.
