We had 16 shots, half of which were on target and a further four blocked. Willian and Tammy Abraham had a joint game-high four attempts.

Both of Marcos Alonso’s efforts were on target, including his winner. The Spaniard has now scored 16 league goals since the start of the 2016/17 campaign, more than any other Premier League defender in that time.

Newcastle did not have a shot on target.

Our dominance was further reflected in the possession stats. We had 71.1 per cent of the ball, with no player in possession more often than Jorginho (11.1 per cent of the time).

He also had the most touches (115), followed by the full-backs Cesar Azpilicueta (111) and Alonso (104).

Unsurprisingly, then, it was also Jorginho who completed the most passes (96). Next in that department were Azpilicueta and Kurt Zouma (both 83) and Fikayo Tomori (80).

When it came to pass completion rates, Jorginho (93 per cent) was second of those players who started the game, behind only Zouma (94 per cent).

Jorginho was also the top tackler on display, winning all five of the challenges he went in for.

Callum Hudson-Odoi topped the list for key passes, with five, followed by Willian who made three.

The Brazilian’s five successful dribbles was a game-high figure. Sub Mateo Kovacic made four, with both players enjoying a 100 per cent take-on rate.

The Blues had to stand up to Newcastle’s direct approach at times and won 23 of the 41 aerial duels contested. Zouma and Abraham led the way with six apiece.
