After a resounding 5-0 victory against Manchester United last Sunday, the head coach discussed the importance of a killer mindset, the strengths of our next opponents and her enjoyment of her role as Chelsea head coach.

She also went into detail on the role of right wing-back Ellie Carpenter in the side and discussed what will be her 200th game as a manager on Saturday.

On loving every moment...

'I'm still having a great experience at Chelsea, and I'm loving every moment because I'm really passionate.

'After 200 games as a manager, I feel even more confident and more mature in terms of the way I manage the squad and my decisions every day. Every player and every manager comes to this league because they want to be challenged – that's also why I came here.

'I probably could have stayed longer in France and been more comfortable with winning more games, with not having maybe as much opposition, but that's not who I am. I want to be challenged. I want to find solutions when it's difficult, and this league is really good for that reason.'

On her squad's mentality...

'I've been talking a lot about mentality and mindsets. I think every team in this league has a lot of quality, really good individuals, but what sometimes makes the difference is your mentality and your mindset coming into training sessions every day and coming into the games.

'This mentality to want to hurt the team when you are playing against them makes the difference between having good players and the best players in the world. The main difference between our first game and the second was the intensity and the mindset we played with in the Man United game; I think it was quite clear.

'Coaching that is not always easy, but that's my job, and we are focusing on that a lot because I think we have enough quality in this team, so it's making sure we always bring the intensity into our games, but also the right mindset.'

On Ellie Carpenter's role...

'I think Ellie is a player who can play different positions in different systems. Right now, we are using her more as a right wing-back. That position gives her maybe a little bit more freedom because she knows she has players behind her who are defending, and we are keeping a better balance in the team.

'A lot of spaces were in that corridor during the last two games we played in, so that's why we were attacking that side. She has the ability to hurt teams in the space in behind the back line.

'She's quick, her ability with the ball is also improving a lot, and she's able to have really good crosses. She's able to score great goals when she comes into that position in the box. So that's something we are trying to use a lot because it's working, but we also have the opportunity to do that on the left side with Alyssa Thompson.

'She's also a really good profile for us to use and to, again, use the speed of them both behind the back line. So, yeah, we'll see.'

On Birmingham...

'They have the ability, with individuals and as a team, to have a lot of quality in terms of the defensive aspects, but also hurting teams in different ways. They are really well organised defensively as well.

'I watched their first two games and some of the games in preseason for Birmingham, and they have a lot of quality. Even if they lost their first game, the performances were good. So we need to be at our best tomorrow.'

On the importance of versatility...

'First and foremost, when you have some injuries and players are not available, you need to have this versatility. You need to find solutions when you are a manager.

'So I think it's good for me as a coach to sometimes talk to the players about being able to play in different positions, but also in terms of tactics, trying to help them understand different positions. So you do that a lot with the young players in the academy, but also in the first team at Chelsea with the young ones.

'I think we are lucky enough to also have experienced players who can play multiple positions, and it's good, especially when you get injuries, so you can still try to manage and find the right solutions to win the game.'
