Sonia Bompastor faced the media at Cobham ahead of our Women's Super League clash against Everton on Saturday, and here are the key talking points from what the Blues head coach said.

We remain unbeaten this season after 13 matches, but Bompastor assured that the standard of preparation will be as high as always as we head into our fifth WSL game of the campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The head coach reported that Lauren James will be missing until the end of this block of matches before the international break, after a scan confirmed that she sustained a hamstring injury during the 6-0 win over Charlton last weekend. Lexi Potter, meanwhile, is available again.

Here are the rest of the key talking points from our head coach’s pre-match press conference on Friday.

On staying grounded…

'My role is to make sure that when we are in good form, we don't go too high. And sometimes when things are not going the way we want, we don't go too low either. I'm responsible for that.

'Right now, of course, we are happy with the results and most of the performances we are having on the pitch, but we won't change anything. We keep working hard, we keep the same mentality, we train with intensity, and we come into every game as well prepared as we can.

'That's what we need to do. Every game in this league is so important and so difficult, so we need to make sure we sustain that for as long as possible.'

On breaking Everton down…

'It's always difficult to score goals against any team. The difference maybe in the Charlton game was that we scored early on the game, and we were winning 4-0 after 19 minutes. And when you are really efficient and clinical from the beginning, it changes the whole game.

'Going into the game tomorrow, we are expecting it might not be possible for us to achieve. They are a really difficult team to break down, and we will have to play at our best if we want to get a result from the game. We'll try our best to break them down, to score as early as possible in the game and to see how they react.

'They haven't conceded many goals, and they are an aggressive team, but in a good way. They had a good result against Manchester United, so I'm sure they are coming in with confidence as well. We are very much aware of the threats and the quality this Everton side has, especially in terms of the defensive aspects.'

On the difference between good and great teams…

'It's really important to be hungry. The hunger is part of the mentality and the mindset a team have, and that's what makes the difference between the good teams and the great teams, the ones who are able to win trophies.

'Sometimes you don't always play the best football, but you always find a way to win games, and that's really important. We focus a lot on the quality of the performance we want to put on the pitch, but some days it's not always possible for different reasons. We need to make sure when those days come, we have that hunger and that mentality to turn things around even when it's not the way we want to play.'

On Carpenter's form…

'Ellie has been starting her actions higher up the pitch for sure, and also she probably feels more freedom to attack. She's been working really hard in training sessions, and she stays at the end to do some extra work around finishing in the box, crosses, the quality of the crosses, scanning, and the quality of her first touch.

'She's always keen to work hard, and she always asks for extras. She's been doing that from the beginning of the season, and it's paying off, so it's good for her.'

On the Halloween scares and having fun…

'Everyone could see that it was Lucy (Bronze). She was really good at scaring people. She got me, but she also got most people in the team. But it was really nice.

'We work really hard most of the time, and we spend so much time focusing on every detail. We speak a lot about our ambitions, how we want to perform on the pitch, and we are professional, so we do that one hundred per cent.

'But it's also good when you can find a good balance and have good laughs and some fun. At the end of the day, football is a game, and when your team is able to play at their best, it's when players have fun on the pitch.'
