Kingsmeadow, home to English league champions Chelsea Women, will host the Commbank Matildas and newly crowned Women’s African Cup of Nations champions South Africa on Saturday 8 October.

The unique fixture marks the first-ever scheduled international friendly between an Australian women’s team and an African nation outside of a FIFA Women’s World Cup or an Olympic Games. It will also be the first international played at Kingsmeadow.

Fans will have the opportunity to see Chelsea forward and Australian international Sam Kerr in action as well as nine other Australian players who feature in the Women’s Super League. This fixture will result in Australia having played an opponent from every FIFA confederation over the last 18 months.

Since qualifying for their first major international tournament a decade ago, South Africa have steadily grown into an emerging nation and strong power of the African continent.

In July, Banyana Banyana captured their first ever Africa Women Cup of Nations in Morocco while also qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.

Kick-off for this international showcase will be 12.30pm (UK time) on Saturday 8 October.
