Kalidou Koulibaly was a rock at the back on his Premier League debut for Chelsea and the defender has since reflected on his first start in English football….

Chelsea kept a first clean sheet of the season as we defeated Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park, with Koulibaly starting on the left of Thomas Tuchel’s back three, between wing-back Ben Chilwell and central defender Thiago Silva.

The Senegal international says gaining the three points was the most important thing but did also highlight his pride and enjoyment of playing in Chelsea blue for the first time in a competitive fixture.

‘It was a tough game and my first game in the Premier League,' Koulibaly said after training on Wednesday morning.

'It was a difficult because I’m not used to the rhythm but I tried my best, and we win the game, and I am so happy to win my first Premier League game. I am looking forward to winning many more games with my team.'

There was also a new chant directed at our new No.26 coming from the visiting Chelsea fans, and Kalidou says he enjoyed hearing the support from the fans.

‘I was really happy and when I first heard [the song] I couldn’t believe it. My brother sent it to me on my phone and I was surprised. I was really happy and I want to thank them for this new song, I hope it will be sung for a long time!'

He will be looking to cement his place in Tuchel’s starting line-up on Sunday, as London rivals Spurs come to Stamford Bridge.

‘It’s a big game at home, a London derby and we know it will be a tough game,' added Kalidou.

Tottenham are a very good team with a lot of good players, we will work hard to be ready for Sunday to try and win the game. We know it’s going to be difficult, but we’ll be ready!’
