Maxence Lacroix can’t wait for his first season as a Chelsea player to begin and is hopeful of making it a memorable one for Blues supporters.

Following his summer move across the capital from fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace, Lacroix made his first outing for Chelsea in last weekend’s friendly win over Real Sociedad at Stamford Bridge.

That was our final pre-season fixture before the real action begins with our Premier League opener away at neighbours Fulham on Monday evening.

Having got his first taste of the action with his introduction to the Blues fans, our new defender can’t wait to get started in his first competitive match.

‘I really enjoyed my first game,’ said Lacroix. ‘I really enjoyed wearing the Chelsea jersey and also being in front of the fans. It was a good moment and we got a win, which was perfect for me!

‘I think everyone is looking forward to Monday and we have a big season in front of us, and it's starting in just a couple of days.

‘Of course, I know all about London derbies and Fulham. I knew them also with Palace, but I know that now with Chelsea, with this big club, it's also totally different, and I'm looking forward to all these derbies.’

Lacroix was one of the late-comers to pre-season training at Chelsea, after being part of the France side which reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup over the summer.

However, he has quickly settled in to his new surroundings and is already well accustomed to switching between defensive shapes, with Xabi Alonso having used both a back three and a back four during pre-season

‘I’ve settled in well, it’s been really good working with the manager and the other players,’ he added. ‘It’s really good. All the guys are good and it’s been top training with them every day.

‘I've played back three and I've played back four at Wolfsburg, at Palace and also in the national team. So for me it's all right for both tactics.

‘I think it’s important for any player to be able to play different ways. And also to understand how we want to play, that is always important for me.’

That leaves Lacroix ready and eager for the start of the 2026/27 season, which he hopes will be one to celebrate for those on the pitch and in the stands.

‘The big message for the fans is that it's going to be a beautiful season and we need you with us so we can enjoy it together.’
