Ahead of his third game since returning to take charge of the Chelsea team, Frank Lampard has discussed his selection options between the posts and indicated who will be in goal against Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

With Edouard Mendy becoming his first-choice goalkeeper during his earlier time as head coach but Kepa Arrizabalaga in that position this season, it is understandable there has been speculation over whether that may change. Lampard gives an update:

‘I don’t see any reasons to do anything differently at the moment, with Kepa’s performances and maturity,’ he says.

‘I’ve maybe matured as a coach as I’ve come back, he has matured as a player. I think he has been in good form and Edou has had a couple of injuries. He is still carrying a small one at the moment so the position as you see it doesn’t change.’

Mendy was signed during the September of Lampard’s second season at the helm and was installed straightaway between the posts.

This season he returned from the World Cup with a shoulder injury and in January, had surgery on a fractured finger suffered in training. Those have been factors in limiting the Senegal international to 11 appearances this season. Kepa has played 31 times.

‘I’m not judging anything on my previous time at the club as opposed to what is in front of me now,’ emphasised Lampard.
