Frank Lampard has been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Month award for the first time after guiding Chelsea to two league victories in September.
Lampard’s side started the month with a thrilling win in the Midlands, with three homegrown youngsters among the goals as we thumped Wolves 5-2 at Molineux. Fikayo Tomori’s stunner opened the scoring before Tammy Abraham notched his first hat-trick for the club and Mason Mount completed the scoring late on. All three have been included in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.
A slender but spirited home defeat to the leaders Liverpool followed, with N’Golo Kante reducing the 2-0 deficit but the Blues were unable to find a late leveller at Stamford Bridge. However, the performance earned praise from pundits and the collective effort was recognised by appreciative applause from the home fans at full-time.
Our first home win under the new boss soon followed as goals from Jorginho and Willian sealed three points and a first clean sheet of the season against Brighton.
Eddie Howe, Jurgen Klopp and Brendan Rodgers are also nominated for the September prize, with the winner announced at midday next Friday 11 October.
