After crowning a fine individual performance against Liverpool with a spectacular goal, Lauren James reflected on a hard-fought win and what she is doing to return to her best form.

LJ’s goal midway through the second half at a sodden Kingsmeadow epitomised her dynamic display. She was a constant menace to the Liverpool backline throughout, and earlier in the contest set up Sjoeke Nusken’s opener with a teasing left-wing cross.

‘I was really happy to assist Sio’s goal and get on the scoresheet,’ said James.

‘Most importantly, we got the three points. It was hard to break them down at the start, but thankfully we got the first goal and it started to open up from there.’

It was the first time James has completed 90 minutes during a campaign affected by injury, and there was more good news as she showed plenty of signs she is getting closer and closer to her very best.

That will stand the Blues in good stead as we approach the business end of the season.

‘I felt good today. It’s hard coming back from injury. I’m trying to get my form back and find my rhythm again. It takes time but I’m glad I got on the scoresheet today.

‘I’m trying not to let the outside noise affect me. I know what I’m capable of and I know what the team is capable of.’
