It’s Chelsea versus Plymouth Argyle in Leasing.com Trophy action this evening (Tuesday). Our Under-21 side make the trip to Home Park for the third and final game of Group F in this season’s competition.

Blues form

Andy Myers’ side had their Premier League 2 game against Everton postponed on Saturday morning but will take confidence from their unbeaten league start into tonight’s senior competition. Last time out in Group F Chelsea were on the end of a defeat as Bristol Rovers came from behind to turn around our one-goal lead.

The opposition

Plymouth Argyle sit 10th in League Two having only lost once on home turf this term. In this competition our hosts have defeated Bristol Rovers (5-3 on penalties after 1-1 draw in normal time) and Swindon Town (0-3), they are currently top of the group with six points from two games.

Previous meeting

Argyle were our hosts at the same stage in last season’s competition. The Blues put five past the Pilgrims that evening without reply.

Charlie Brown opened the scoring before a Yann Songo’o own-goal doubled the advantage. A strong final 15 minutes witnessed Chelsea secure qualification to the knockout round with a further three goals through Martell Taylor-Crossdale, Tino Anjorin and Daishawn Redan.

How things stand in Group F

Chelsea are third in the table and need to avoid defeat to keep hopes of qualification alive. A win after 90 minutes would take the Blues top of the group this evening ahead of the last fixture between Bristol Rovers and Swindon Town later next month. A draw could still be enough to progress should we win the resulting shoot-out but would leave us reliant on fixtures elsewhere.

A win would ensure Plymouth Argyle top the group while a draw of any kind would guarentee their qualification.
