Liam Rosenior says he and his Chelsea players have a ‘determination to put things right’ at Everton on Saturday after a challenging week on our domestic and European fronts.
The Blues travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time this week after three consecutive defeats, including home and away against Paris Saint-Germain, which saw us exit the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage, and in our last Premier League outing at home to Newcastle United.
While testing, it has been an instructive period for Rosenior, and the Chelsea head coach wants to ensure it will be looked back on at the end of the season as merely a bump in the road.
‘I’ve learned a lot this week,’ he explained at his pre-match press conference this afternoon. ‘I’m learning about the team, myself, the staff and the club. What I do know is that there is a resilience and determination to put things right, from myself and the team.'
He continued: ‘I think every manager goes through moments like this, goes through difficult weeks. I've had challenging periods before. At Strasbourg, we lost games, and I’ve lost games in other jobs – as all managers have done. But I've always found a way to come through that.
‘We're at that point where, as a group, we need to find a way to fight at Everton and come through a difficult period.’
Despite our Champions League campaign ending midweek, the Blues still have plenty to play for this term, chief among them securing our spot in the same competition next season. And Rosenior’s attention is centred on that challenge.
‘This club deserves to be in the Champions League, it's as simple as that,’ he said. ‘That's the aim, that's the target, that's what we need to really focus on after coming out of that competition.
‘The rest is about making sure that we win the next game and stay on track for what we want to achieve.’
