Liam Rosenior says the injury Trevoh Chalobah sustained against Paris Saint-Germain is ‘not as serious as first feared’, but the centre-back is expected to be sidelined for around six weeks.

The 26-year-old was stretchered off in the closing stages of our Champions League Round of 16 second leg on Tuesday following a tackle from PSG full-back Achraf Hakimi and has since undergone assessments on the injury.

A spell on the sidelines is in store for our Academy graduate, but Rosenior is pleased the injury isn't as significant as it appeared on Tuesday evening.

'It wasn’t until after the game that I saw the image [of the tackle] and then you’re really worried for the next day,' the Blues head coach explained in his pre-match press conference ahead of our Premier League clash with Everton on Saturday.

'Obviously, it’s never good that Trevoh is out for any period of time, but fortunately, it’s not as serious as we first feared.

'It's still a serious injury but we're looking at a period of six weeks, which is disappointing but from where we were a couple of days ago, straight after the game, we are in a better place than we thought.'

Rosenior also delivered updates on both goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen and Blues skipper Reece James. The former was absent from our previous two matches due to a groin issue, while James was sidelined in midweek due to a hamstring injury sustained against Newcastle United last weekend.

'Unfortunately, Filip had his scan and needed a minor operation,' said Rosenior. 'Nothing too serious again, it's a matter of weeks.

'With Reece, we're going to look more after the international break. It's not serious, but there is something in his hamstring [scan] and it's something we'll monitor after the international break.'

A positive on the fitness front is the sight of Levi Colwill in first-team training. The Academy graduate has not featured for the Blues during the current campaign due to a knee ligament injury he sustained during pre-season.

While the centre-back is not yet close to a return to first-team action, Rosenior is encouraged by the progress being made by the England international and is hopeful Colwill could return before the end of our campaign.

He said: 'With an ACL [recovery], he is hitting all the benchmarks he needs to, but we need to keep making sure he is going past certain levels.

'It's brilliant to have his presence back on the training pitch, and while we want to see him back out there on the pitch as soon as possible, it has to be within the right timeframe. He's still looking at a good while [before returning to first-team action] yet. Hopefully, that can be this season, which would be a massive boost.'
