Liam Rosenior has provided the latest team news ahead of our FA Cup quarter-final with Port Vale, with the head coach confirming that both Estevao Willian and Jamie Gittens are both fine to feature.
The wingers will be part of the squad to face the League One side at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, with a place in the last-four of the competition we last won in 2018 on offer.
However, our head coach confirmed that the game will come too soon for Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah, despite them both progressing well in their recoveries from hamstring and ankle injuries respectively, while Levi Colwill continues to step up his work as he bids to return to action from a long-term knee injury, but won’t be involved against the Valiants either.
‘Reece is getting along really well but he’s not ready yet,’ Rosenior stated at his pre-match press conference.
‘Trevoh is progressing really, really well as well and it’s great to have Levi [Colwill] back in full training, but it’s going to take him a few more weeks to tick those boxes before he’s ready [to feature].
‘Elsewhere we have pretty much a fresh group to work with. Best of all, Estevao [is fit], Jamie Gittens is back and that’s really positive in terms of going into the run-in [of the end of the season].
Our head coach was asked whether any of those players, specifically James or Chalobah, could be available to return to action for our next Premier League game, against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on April 12.
‘With Reece and Trevoh, I don’t know [in terms of a return date] yet,’ added Rosenior. We work day to day and I don’t want to give a timeline and [the players] not come through with that timeline.
‘We don’t want to put pressure on those players working to come back, but what I will say is that they are all working really well at this moment.’
