Liam Rosenior says Cole Palmer 'leads in the way he plays' after handing Chelsea No.20 the captain's armband for this afternoon's FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale.
The Blues host Port Vale at Stamford Bridge this afternoon as we look to book our place in the final four of the FA Cup with a victory over the League One side. Rosenior has made three changes coming into the game, while also naming Cole as today’s skipper.
The England international, who joined the club in 2023 and has made more than a century of appearances, will lead Chelsea out of the Stamford Bridge tunnel, and Rosenior has no doubt in his ability to lead by example.
‘He deserves it,’ Rosenior explained, speaking before kick-off.
‘He leads in the way he plays. I think Cole is somebody who, right now, deserves the honour of captaining this huge club, and hopefully he will perform in the manner I expect him to, to show he's the right captain.’
Liam is excited by this afternoon’s challenge and expects his side to rise to today's test, with no room to underestimate the opposition, given a place in the semi-final up for grabs.
He continued: ‘It’s a huge opportunity to reach an FA Cup semi-final – it’s a competition at this club we want to win.
‘Port Vale deserve to be at this stage, and we’ve taken it really seriously. We know we will have to play really well to get through.’
