There have been several highs enjoyed during Liam Rosenior's first month as Chelsea head coach. Yet Tuesday night brought a disappointing low as we missed out on the Carabao Cup final after falling to defeat at Arsenal.

The Blues faced an uphill battle in north London after suffering a 3-2 defeat in the first leg of our semi-final tie. But armed with a game plan designed to contain Mikel Arteta's side, Rosenior believed his side could turn things around at the Emirates Stadium.

Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. While Arsenal only registered two shots on target across the 90 minutes, we were restricted to the same tally. The Gunners' meagre defence held firm despite the second-half introductions of Cole Palmer, Estevao Willian, and later Josh Acheampong and Alejandro Garnacho.

That Kai Havertz netted in the dying seconds for Arsenal, ensuring the home side won the second leg and the tie, only caused further disappointment for Rosenior and his players.

Naturally, the Chelsea head coach was unhappy to exit the competition. Not that he felt any frustration with his players. Rosenior praised his group's work ethic and commitment to executing the game plan, but felt a moment of quality in or around the penalty area to open up the hosts' defence was what we lacked.

The defeat hurt those in blue, which was clear following the full-time whistle. However, Rosenior's deposition is to focus on what he and his players can learn from difficult moments.

It's why he is hopeful that when we face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday in the Premier League, his players show the right reaction and get us back to winning ways.

Rosenior said: ‘I’ve been here for less than a month and we’ve had eight games in that time, so I have to give the players so much credit for putting the performances in that they have put in, and show they’re learning, showing the spirit, the togetherness, and that the fight of the team is there.

‘There are a lot of encouraging signs, but now we need to see what we look like after a setback. We need to react positively in a difficult game away at Wolves on Saturday. I need to see what our reaction is.’
