Liam Rosenior believes Chelsea forward Joao Pedro has the potential to reach the very top of the game if he can maintain the high standards he has set in recent weeks.

The Brazil international has flourished since Rosenior’s arrival as head coach last month, scoring six goals and registering four assists in his previous eight appearances.

Highlights include his brilliant brace in Naples that secured us a top-eight berth in the Champions League, and fine finishes against Brentford, West Ham United and Leeds United at the Bridge.

Joao Pedro has predominantly led the line in that time as a number nine, although the 24-year-old has, on occasion, also been deployed in tandem with Liam Delap, such as in the second half of the fantastic comeback win over West Ham.

Now Rosenior wants to see the Brazilian maintain his level of performance, irrespective of where he plays.

‘Every player works on being the best player they can be, regardless of the role they’re asked to carry out,’ explained Rosenior ahead of Burnley's visit to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

‘For Joao, he’s had real rhythm. I’ve asked him to do different things and he’s taken it on board and put it into practice. He’s been outstanding.'

Rosenior continued: 'The quality has never been in doubt. The true test for Joao now – which is the exciting thing – is if he can maintain this level of intensity and this level of quality, he can be one of the best strikers in world football.

'I truly believe that. It’s a possibility at the moment if he maintains this level.’
