Liam Rosenior has praised the maturity shown by Cole Palmer on his road back to full fitness and explained how he will try to get the best from every member of the Chelsea squad in the weeks and months ahead.

The Blues head coach has spoken glowingly, and on numerous occasions, about the game-changing quality possessed by our No.10. However, Rosenior has not been able to call upon the England international for every one of his eight games in charge, with Palmer's minutes continuing to be managed.

He did play the entirety of our Premier League wins over Brentford and West Ham United, but sat out the victory at Crystal Palace and featured for the last 30 minutes of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Arsenal.

And ahead of our trip to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, Rosenior reiterated that Palmer – and other members of his squad – understands the consideration that goes into his game after groin and thigh injuries.

‘Cole's bought in [to the process] and been magnificent,’ said Rosenior. ‘He wants to be playing every minute of every game.

‘We know the player that he is and the character that he is, but he's also maturing as a human being. He understands the bigger picture, which is his career.

‘I'm also very conscious that the lads played in the Club World Cup and went through the summer with no break. Then they've played so many games, our schedule has been crazy, and they will have the World Cup and international games to play [in the summer].

‘I want to make sure that the well-being process is correct for these players, and for their careers as well.'

Rosenior continued: ‘It's day-by-day [with Palmer]. It's making sure he feels right, that he can contribute to the team in the way that he wants to. We’ll keep working on that.

‘Very soon, I'm sure he'll be in a place where he can play every minute of every game, and I'll be a very happy man.’

Rosenior further outlined why he keeps the bigger picture in mind to ensure his players still have plenty left in the tank come the business end of the campaign.

He said: ‘We have the very best medical team, the very best sports science team, and we do many tests. We want to make sure all our players can play at the level they need to play at to help us win.

‘On Cole, there isn’t a time frame that means he is going to be perfect in a month, two months or three months. Game-to-game is the way we’ve been working with him, and that is the way we have to continue to work with him and a few of our players.

‘You want all of your players to be 100 per cent match fit, 100 per cent of the time. That's not going to happen, not just with Cole but with every player, especially given our schedule. I'm trying to get the very best out of him and my team at the same time.

‘Also, I'm taking into account, hopefully, the many games we still have to play in the many competitions we're still in, to make sure we're still very, very strong come April and May. That affects my decision-making.’
