Liam Rosenior has explained the process he and the Chelsea coaching staff undertake to aid the Blues players' development and improve upon previous performances.
Rosenior’s tenure as our head coach may still be in its infancy, but he is doing all he can to get his message across in the short time between games.
At his pre-Newcastle press conference, the 41-year-old expanded on how he attempts to help his squad improve and learn from where things have gone wrong in the past – such as the closing stages of our 5-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week.
‘The way we work on mistakes is that we sit down with the players and go through a lot of clips,’ said Rosenior.
‘Reece [James, who accompanied Rosenior for the press conference after signing a new contract] can tell you the number of times he’s been in our office, and sometimes it’s two or three clips we show the players. What you want to see after that is an improvement.’
The fast-paced nature of modern football and our busy fixture schedule means Rosenior doesn't always have time on the training pitches to work on overarching tactical principles with his players. The focus is often on recovery and then pre-match preparation.
However, the Blues head coach has seen signs that we are heading in the right direction as the campaign nears its conclusion.
‘I’ve been here for two-and-a-half months, that’s the reality. It feels like a long time with the games we’ve had, but it takes time.
‘We don’t have much time left and we need to learn from the Leeds and Burnley games, where we dropped four points from winning positions at home.
‘If we do that, with the consistency in our performances, such as winning 4-1 at Aston Villa in the last Premier League game, we are in a good place to do what we want to do.’
