Liam Rosenior is ‘proud of the bravery’ his Chelsea players displayed in our Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal and believes positives can be taken from our narrow defeat at Stamford Bridge

The Blues fell behind in the seventh minute of the contest as Ben White headed home from a corner. Viktor Gyokeres then doubled the visitors' advantage early in the second period with a close-range finish.

Yet Rosenior's side responded and substitute Alejandro Garnacho fired us level. Martín Zubimendi did strike a third for Arsenal, but another Garnacho goal ensured in the closing stages ensured all is still to play for at the Emirates in early February.

Tonight's game was Rosenior's first in the Stamford Bridge dugout following his appointment as head coach last week. And while disappointed not to have come away with a positive result, the 41-year-old highlighted the signs of progression he saw after just six days in charge.

'I was proud of the bravery of the players to try to execute certain aspects of what I've asked,' Rosenior reflected after our 3-2 defeat.

'I've been in for six days and we've had two matches [in that time]. I'm not asking for time because I think the group is good enough to win now, but I need to put my stamp on the team as well. Otherwise, there's no point me being here.'

The Blues head coach continued: 'I want us to be high tempo, I want us to be front foot, I want us to control and dominate games.

'We created chances today from transition, but we also created chances from build and possession moments today, which is really pleasing against a very good team defensively.

'I'm very encouraged by a lot of things I saw today. I'm not happy to lose any game, but in terms of a building block for Saturday, there are a lot of things I can show the players that they can keep improving.'
